It is a FANTASTIC claim that the Paralok Pro is the World's BEST Table Saw Fence.

So let's PROVE it !!!

Good News!  This incredible design will again soon be in production!

So how do you determine which fence is actually the best?

To be the best something has to do what it is designed to do better than all others.  Let's start with what people who have actually used the first two previous versions of the Paralok say.   Clicking on the Fine Wordworking link below will open a new window at the Forum discussion on the Paralok Fence at Fine Woodworking magazine.  Fine Woodworking magazine has been one of the most respected sources for high end woodworking for many, many years.  We are not connected to or endorsed by them in any way.

Let's look at different areas that cause people to consider something as best,

Appearance:

Some consider something as BEST because of its appearance.  Let's look at an example that is easy to relate to.  Men buy pickup trucks.  Our egos want to think that our pickup is someway better than all the other pickups around.  So we put on flashy wheels, huge oversized tires, and wild graphics.  It is debatable on whether these actually improve handling, safety, durability or usefulness.  The majority of pickups purchased are 1/2 ton rated or smaller.  Oversized tires can stress the bearings.  You get the point.  To truly be best should be  things like: easier to use, safer, stronger, more precise and more comfortable.   Form should follow function.

Safety:

Do we consider something as safe because it was designed by a known company and they have engineers, accountants and lawyers on staff to insure it was made in a manner where they have the least likelihood of getting sued and its made at the cheapest possible price?  Yes there are many really good products that are excellent and safe, but we all have bought well promoted junk that wasn't.  With table saws, kickbacks and the wood binding are the cause of many accidents. Table saws are especially dangerous because the operator holds the material being cut, instead of the saw, making it easy to accidentally move hands into the spinning blade. When using other types of circular saws, the material remains stationary, as the operator guides the saw into the material.  So the blade being parallel to the fence is a critical component of safety.  There have been many

The modern table saw fence is just a polished version of what has been available for over 100 years.  Then in the early 1980's a man in Portland, Oregon designed a fence that is attached to a cable on both the front and rear of the fence.  When one end moves, the opposite end moves an identical amount in the same direction.  After the initial set up, the cable keeps the fence perfectly parallel to the blade.  Sadly the gentleman who originally designed it passed away and his business closed many years ago.

Darryl Water's original Paralok fence, the Paralok or Paralok 1 used a stainless steel fence.  The Paralok 2 used an aluminum fence and had sever design improvements.  The Paralok fence is considered the most precise fence ever available.  The cables that are attached to the fence are what keep the fence and the blade in perfect parallel.

All other tablesaw fence designs are only anchored on one side of the saw, usually the front.  These front mounted designs were far cheaper to manufacturer.  When a fence is slightly out of parallel with the blade, the chance of a kickback is increased.  To combat that manufacturers have come up with options like the riving knife and the electronic safety stop which help.  These help with kickbacks but but you still have possible alignment issues with a front anchored fence.  Why not just use a parallel fence instead.

Daryl's design is incredible.  It solves the alignment issue.  I have used one of the original Paralok fences for years, and have always been impressed with it.  It is precise, it is simple, and it is solidly built.  Once we have confirmed the design we will offer early ordering, or you can just wait till they become available.

Our design team is going over every aspect of Daryl's design and seeing if it can be improved even further.  You will be amazed!
